Dear Sigma Kappa Sisters,
It is a pleasure to update you on our exciting housing project. Bids were issued March 28, 2011, and the winning bid has been awarded to Jolley Construction of Chattanooga. Construction on the Sigma Kappa house is slated to begin in mid to late June. Completion is expected within a twelve months timeframe. Alpha Deltas will move into the new chapter house in the fall of 2012. Approximately ten sorority houses will open at this time in sorority village. The University has assured the Panhellenic community that all services and security will be in place when move-in occurs.
On May 1, 2011, the official UT groundbreaking ceremony was held at the Visitor Center on Neyland Drive. Faun Delozier Norton was Sigma Kappa’s official representative during this ceremony. Renderings of all new sorority houses were displayed. I am confident that you will find Alpha Delta’s new house among the most impressive structures on Morgan Hill. Thank you to the alumnae and collegians that came out to celebrate the day with us.
The Corporation Board decorating committee and Lon J. Brown, ASID of Brown-Hazen House Inc. have selected a color scheme with variations of reds, greens, and golds with violet accents. The furnishings are classic in design from an American perspective with influences taken from different cultures. Although traditional, the feel is upbeat to appeal to both alumnae and collegians. The main floor will consist of the kitchen, ladies lounge, two-story foyer with a grand spiral staircase, parlor, house director’s suite, dining room with outdoor patio, and chapter room. The second floor will have 21 bedrooms, a library, a TV lounge, a community bath, a kitchenette, and a laundry/vending area. The third floor attic will be storage space. Andrew Scruggs of Strategic Kitchen Equipment has designed a full commercial kitchen.
To date, Sigma Kappa gifts total close to $700,000, but more is needed. The Alpha Delta House Corporation’s goal has been to raise a million dollars to lessen the collegians’ debt. We are entering the final phase of our campaign. I know that many of you may have been waiting to see the project get underway. I can tell you confidently that the Alpha Delta house is a reality. I encourage you show your support and sisterhood by donating now. A thousand dollar pledge can be given for less than $1.00 per day over a three year period. Each contribution, no matter how large or small, is important. Alumnae support of this project is vital to its success. All donations can be made directly to the University of Tennessee Sigma Kappa Capital Account and are 100% tax deductible. Pledges can be made over the course of five years to make giving easier. Naming opportunities are available and can be seen on this website.
If you have been waiting to donate, I urge you to do so now. We will continue to fundraise as construction progresses. We need and appreciate your support! We owe a great deal of gratitude to Sigma Kappa’s National Housing Corporation for their total support in financing the remaining debt on the Alpha Delta house.
I invite you to visit our website, www.sigmakappahouse.com often as our progress is continually updated. We have also created a new Facebook page where you may track the progress of this building project through pictures and posts. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you again for visiting and for your support of Alpha Delta.
Loyally in Sigma Kappa,
Julia Hounshell Reynolds ’72, President
